Inspiring better ways to carry is at the core of Bellroy’s mission and we’re on the hunt for a soft-goods designer to help our customers move through the world with greater ease, simplicity and enjoyment. We founded Carryology to connect with the carry community and learn from it. With Bellroy, we look to put those learnings into practice, and find fresh, innovative solutions to every problem.

As our new designer, you would work beside five diversely skilled product designers, an incredible pattern-maker, product developers and frequent guest experts who are all passionate about design and carry, and Bellroy’s strong place within both. You’d collaborate widely, both inside the business with our creative, development and product management teams, and outside it, with our world-class suppliers. You’d work through your ideas in our design lab, where we can pattern and prototype new wallets, bags and carry goods in any given day (and still manage to check the surf). And you’d be part of a global business on a mission to lead the way – in both carry, and in business. If this sounds like the job of your dreams, read on.


YOU COULD BE THE ONE, IF…

You are super keen to get great products into the world. You'll have some experience in designing soft-goods, but you don't need to be a seasoned campaigner.

You take pride in yourself and your work – and you are on a constant mission to get better at what you do. Because you care about the value you bring to the world, and know that self-development and skill-building is important for that. You embrace feedback, and enjoy the process of implementing that feedback to make designs even better. You care equally about the process and the outcome; you agree that the thinking is just as important as the making.

At Bellroy, we focus on both the rational and the emotional. We believe the best designs come from a combination of solid process, the willingness to challenge our ideas (and each other), and a whole heap of teamwork. We don’t have rock solid briefs, we evolve them as we go – and that’s all good with you, because you are comfortable with a moving target, if you know it makes for a better outcome. You are flexible and agile; ‘stubborn’ is not a word anyone would use to describe you.

You’re not in this for a stroke to the ego or a pat on the back. You care more about how good the design is, than who can claim the credit. At the end of the day, getting excellent products into our customers’ hands (or on their back) is what you’re here for – and knowing it will be used and loved for a long time to come is all the kudos you need.


IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU MIGHT HAVE DONE...

  • Brainstormed with the design team and incorporated feedback into an active project
  • Worked with our pattern-maker to get ideas into higher resolution sewn forms, or used laser cut and sewn a trial concept build yourself in our lab
  • Contributed to a round table discussion on colleague’s design, as they tried to solve the unknowns in their project
  • Prepped for an upcoming supplier trip, making sure we have the right materials and sub-assemblies ready
  • Collaborated with our Product Development team to ensure a spec is complete and ready to be shared with a supplier
  • Helped to build relationships with our fitzroy office through the customer insights team, creative team, sales team and flourishing team.
  • Walked to Bird Rock lookout with the team, to check the ocean and let a little bit of nature soak into your senses (and maybe inspire your creativity).

Our Spaces

'Bellroy' is a fusion of our two homes – Bells Beach and Fitzroy. Bells Beach brings a relaxed, outdoor vibe to balance Fitzroy's creative, urban style. The city and the sea; inspiration and adventure. Together they provide a perfect balance.

Bells Beach

Our beach HQ sits behind giant sandstone cliffs that overlook one of Australia’s best-known surfing coastlines. It’s where our Product Designers experiment in the Maker Lab, and our Sales team consume awesome amounts of espresso and Skype bandwidth. Things are more tranquil here than our Fitzroy neighbours and we like the focus that can create. There’s a cafe right next door if you need a quick bite and our 11am surf check always provides the perfect chance to reset the mind with some salt air.

Fitzroy

Our Fitzroy space is immersed in the middle of Melbourne’s creative hub. It’s where our Creative, Marketing, Engineering and Operations teams develop campaigns and ensure each Bellroy is sent safely across the world. Walk out the door and you’ll find streets bursting with energy (and the best ramen joint this side of Tokyo). There’s also an olympic-size pool just around the corner for those in need of a lunchtime refresh.

Remotely

Outside of our two main headquarters we have a team that works remotely - from Western Australia to parts of Asia, the USA and Europe. Being global is at the heart of Bellroy, it keeps us connected, and makes sure we see life from many different perspectives.
